PART 5 - The Reunion: Photos (1)

The following photos were taken on the night of the reunion - June 18th. 2005.
No particular order and the captions try to identify those in the photos - which I think we've managed to do pretty accurately.

  1. I had the pleasure of working with Bruce Kennewell when modernising the Tumut 1 Power Station access elevator (31Y0648) control system back in 1989. The selector there was over 2 metres tall and uses a unique "idling" mode to deal with the large distances between the floors at either end of the shaft. It had a large Bull (?) geared machine that slowly moved the large car at 200 fpm through the 1000+ foot rise of the concrete shaft through the rock from the access foyer to the power station was quite amazing. It took over 5 minutes to make that journey, and if the elevator broke down, you had to climb onto the car top and get out one of the access doors and then walk up/down the stairways.

I worked in Engineering at Otis Bankstown with John Inglis, back in the days of the Otilec 9 hydraulic elevator. Glad to see he's still doing well. He hasn't changed in all these years.

    Cheers

    1. Jason......
I'm delighted that you have seen this website and thank you very much for your comment.
That floor selector was replaced with a new arrangement (using magnetic inductors) during that mod. And you recall the contract number....amazing!!
